The construction in 1966 of the house was achieved in six months, thanks to the use of a metal framework and a thoughtful floor plan consisting of a simple rectangular plan with symmetrical layout.

Visit Architecture as neighbor

In a collaboration between the Ghent architectural associations and the services of the city of Ghent a big architecture exhibition was set up where about 180 buildings were presented. The exhibition concept was inspired by the spatial contrasts of streets and squares in confrontation with the historical location of St. Peter’s Abbey.

Jean Van den Bogaerde

Jean Van den Bogaerde (°1929) has taught at various institutions, won several awards for his designs and participated in numerous architectural competitions.

Like many contemporaries, Van den Bogaerde was inspired by the international avant-garde, particularly Le Corbusier, Mies van der Rohe and Frank Lloyd Wright and the examples of the “Case Study House Program” in California. A relationship with Japanese architecture is reflected in the importance of integration in the area, wood construction, the open plan arrangement, the sliding doors, the overhangs.
