Trip Along Flemish roads # 01 /05/2017

West & Oost-Vlaanderen +West- Vlaams-Brabant,

This spring we’re off on a journey, not on an exotic destination like Chandigarh or Naoshima, but to the Flemish hinterland where the names of the hamlets vaguely sounds familiar and where cyclists tracks are guiding us.

Visit Bustrip tough the South of West-Flanders

The eight buildings of the trip vary in typology – from hotel to an industrial building into a village hall or a cultural center – and the ride takes us to places where we would not make a special detour.

The architectural appearance is usually close to the original recorded content and looks abstract. It’s this border that attracts architects Govaert & Vanhoutte and which they want to apply in their work.

Govaert & Vanhoutte

Govaert Vanhoutte is a Belgian architectural office founded in 1989 in Bruges.

Benny Govaert (┬░Bruges, 1962) studied architecture at the Higher Institute of Architecture of the City of Ghent (1985) and obtained a degree in Urban and Regional Planning at KU Leuven (1986)

Damien Vanhoutte (┬░Kortrijk, 1963) studied architecture at the Higher Institute of Architecture Sint-Lucas in Ghent (1986) and sculpture at the St. Lucas Institute in Ghent (1983-1985)
(directed by Prof. Viktor Temmerman)

They try to abstract, to achieve transcendence in their designs, always starting from a functional analysis of the program and the environment along with an artistic vision, to result in an authentic concept that is always linked to content and place.
