Space & Infrastructure

Spatial Series #1
Tuesday
18.10 2016
19:00

In collaboration with:

With the support of:

Debate with Lars Fischer and Rachel Himmelfarb from Common Room and Parasite 2.0 with Eugenio Cosentino.

Architecture as a metaphor for social transformation
Building as a form of discectomy of the old standard.
Building as an invitation to hackable architecture.

With a view to realizing a new, growing architecture for Timelab, we unite a series of speakers from diverse backgrounds and expertise to address current challenges in the architectural and design field. A search for other ways of building: adaptive, questioning and from the bottom up. How do we make room for inventive dynamics and what do we leave behind for future generations?

Spatial Series is a series of debates in the context of 33 YEARS OF SPACE. The first speakers are Lars Fischer and Rachel Himmelfarb from Common Room and Parasite 2.0 with Eugenio Cosentino.
This series of debates is a collaboration with Business Center De Punt and Timelab Gent.

How do we install a space where differences in culture, gender, education, background and ideology can find grounding? It must be an environment without dominant or compelling forms. Adaptive and questioning. This space is, by definition, constantly subject to different and varying influences. Suppose we can shape this liquid space, how does this in turn influence the interaction between the users? Suppose we can answer these questions, which form and aesthetics will unfold? Everything seems to indicate that we are looking for the code behind the infrastructure. Preferably even an open source code that is clear and adaptable in itself. Can a protocol be derived from this that can be reused in other contexts? Where is the designer or architect then? That role seems so completely rewritten, or does that only seem like that? Parasite 2.0 and Common Room explore the hesitant course of the designer between 2 systems, an architecture without architects, or architects without architecture?
