Unlimited Landscape
Students from different design disciplines (architecture, landscape, urban planning, interior design) will be given a stage to speak about their own student work. Maalstroom, Archipel youth think tank, young Blikveld and Blikveld are joining forces to put the future of landscape architecture on the agenda. An open call last spring led to a selection of student work that shows the breadth and depth of the field while emphasising certain attitudes and competences specific to the various disciplines.
Students are given a stage outside the walls of their courses, across disciplines. Still unbounded by any real practice, their ideas, ideals and approaches offer a refreshing look at the approach to landscape architecture. The selection will be announced at the end of August.
The student work does not stand alone, but frames in a manifesto for a master’s degree in landscape architecture – so far unavailable in Flanders. The students’ presentations will be followed by a debate on the future and scope of the discipline of landscape architecture in Flanders. Based on a number of themes emerging in the student work, the challenges and specific design attitudes and educational needs for landscape architecture are explored.
