Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec (FR)
2015 is the tenth anniversary that Maarten Van Severen died. In response to this the Maarten Van Severen Foundation and the Department of Design of KASK / School of Arts, Ghent introduced a chair, with which they want to carry out the actual meaning of the work of the designer. Archipel committed to co-organize a major annual lecture within this chair. This year the first chair is assigned to the Bouroullec brothers from France.
Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec live and work in Paris since mid 1990. They are linked by their quest for perfection, while the challenge to work together for these two very different personalities is very big. They have an experimental approach, which is crucial for their creative work, whether it involves space design, furniture design or architectural projects, textile wall systems or extensive collections. The Bouroullec’s also trying to breathe new life into existing designs. Multifunctionality plays an important role, but also transparent and minimalist design are undeniable assets. Despite the often highly technical nature of their designs the brothers aim to stay in harmony with the nature around them.
