In voorjaar 2024 trekt Archipel naar Londen!
Als naoorlogse bouwstijl, gekenmerkt door ‘massief’ ruw beton met een zware textuur (béton brut) en hoekige, geometrische vormen, bloeide het brutalisme tussen het midden van de jaren 1950 en 1970 op. Het brutalisme vindt weliswaar zijn wortels in het modernisme, maar ontstond als een beweging tegen de architecturale mainstream in. Het legde de nadruk op materialen, texturen en constructie, maar ook op functionaliteit en gelijkheid. De brutalistische architecten daagden de traditionele opvattingen over hoe een gebouw eruit zou moeten zien uit en lieten het gebouw zien zoals het was in al zijn structurele eerlijkheid.
