"Japan, archipel of the house"
Guided tour in exhibition with an explanatory lecture by Hera Van Sande (Artistic leader, Archipel vzw).
The Japanese home fascinates and intrigues for some time, but also raises questions about habitability. Japon, the archipelago de la maison (Japan, archipelago of the house) is a traveling exhibition about contemporary homes in Japan. The exhibition offers a historical perspective and a clear context to capture the evolution of these living spaces. The expo shows three parts. The first part of yesterday’s Houses contains fourteen case studies of well-known twentieth-century homes that are experienced as milestones, not only because of their quality of living, but because of their reaction to the natural and built environment that surrounds them. The second part Houses in Tokyo is a photographic documentary with thirty-six house portraits within their immediate context. The third part Houses of today comprises twenty case studies of contemporary homes, illustrated with plans, photos and videos.
