IT'S YOUR TURN
What happens when architecture becomes a game? When space is not a backdrop, but a playing field? When design is not an object to be looked at, but an invitation to participate?
Maalstroom collects student work that can be played, and then actually puts it into practice. On 25 June, we invite you to the EGW building for an in-person event where selected works will not only be displayed but also brought to life. We challenge you to experience first-hand how play and space relate to one another.
Think of spatial interventions, board games, urban scenarios, performative scores, new rules for living together, or a game that opens up a space for discussion through language. We are looking for designs, objects, interventions or systems that enable play – whether physical, strategic, narrative or critical. From spatial installations to card games, from urban strategies to new rules for space. It may be tangible or conceptual, competitive or cooperative – as long as the public can participate or observe. We are collecting two types of submissions: on the one hand, existing work that has already been developed (up to 5 years old), on the other, concepts awaiting implementation, new input, collective engagement or further development.
We’re asking for one representative image (PDF or JPEG) and an accompanying text. Keep it as short or as long as you like, depending on your work or idea. Submit your entry by email before 27 May at 23:00, and please let us know in advance if you can make it on 25 June. Selected projects will have the chance to be played on 25 June in the showcase of the EGW building (Ghent) – be sure to bring your playmates along.
If you have any questions or would like to submit your work, please email us at: maalstroom@archipelvzw.be
