Gijs Van Vaerenbergh
Gijs Van Vaerenbergh is the name of a Belgian collaboration founded in 2007 of two architects/artists: Pieterjan Gijs (°Leuven, 1983) and Arnout Van Vaerenbergh (°Leuven, 1983).
It is remarkable that they not only execute architectural commissions, but also produce works of art that apply architecture, without being architecture. The aim is to expierience an alienating experience.
These works include: The Upside Dome, a temporary, pending dome construction in the St. Michiel’s Church in Leuven. Reading between the lines in Borgloon, which refers to a village church.
In addition, the collective has shown a number of temporary works, which often uses platforms, cranes and the like: Framework, an installation at the Leuven canal basin & Bridge, a temporary footbridge over the canal in Brussels, on the occasion of Festival Kanal Playground
