NU architectuuratelier

NU architectuuratelier is founded in 2004 by Armand Eeckels (°1973), Halewijn Lievens (°1975) Arunas Arlauskas (°1967), in Ghent.

They studied at the Hogeschool voor Wetenschap en Kunst, Departement Architectuur, campus Sint-Lucas Gent. Arunas left the architecture studio in 2007.

NU architectuuratelier is a working platform for intensive architecture and design research, led by Armand Eeckels and Halewijn Lievens. Since its foundation in 2004, the practice has aimed to develop and explore spatial, material and landscape projects in close collaboration with its clients. Through its empathetic approach to the design process, NU seeks to make a qualitative contribution to our social, spatial and mental environment.

NU’s intense approach to architecture has led to a wide range of distinctive, stand-alone projects. The ambitions for the firm’s projects stem from a deep interest in culture, the public and people’s well-being. NU strives for tactile and meaningful architecture by combining large- and small-scale projects,
whereby functional expectations are elevated to inspiration. In essence, NU architecture studio aims to develop empathetic architecture that is close to the people who interact with it.

NU architecture studio has an exceptionally broad scope of projects. Often, complex spatial challenges lead, through a highly developed design research process, to striking projects. In addition to major public projects, urban development projects, healthcare projects, residential renovations, new-build homes and group housing projects,
NU works on cultural projects that require a bespoke approach. Here, an affinity with experience and scenario is central. Furthermore, NU architecture studio has extensive experience with interesting care projects such as the Care Pilot Project in Sint-Truiden, the creation of a living space for 28 adults with intellectual disabilities in a doctor’s house in Zaffelare, or the intimate care project and masterplan for Huis Perrekes, a residential centre for people with dementia.
